About the Assessment

Career Magnifier assesses your interest in over 170 occupations to determine the career and area of study that best suits you.

Is this an accurate assessment?

Career Magnifier was developed by professional Career Consultant, Katie Roberts (B Sc. (Psych & Mgmt), MBTI, AACC) in 2006. Strong results in the criterion validity and test-retest reliability studies demonstrate a high level of accuracy.

"When I first started working as a Career Consultant in 2001, I tested a number of career assessments to find a suitable one to use with my clients. Each assessment I tested produced 40-50 ‘suitable’ careers for me, ranging from hairdressing to medicine. Not only were the results inaccurate, they were extremely general. As a result, I decided to develop my own assessment, aiming to accurately identify 2-3 specific careers that match an individual’s interests and values.

After 5 years of research with more than 3000 people aged 15-55 years, I launched Career Magnifier in April 2006. Since it was launched, people from all over the world including Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom have taken the assessment to discover their ideal career. The feedback has been extremely positive with a number of Career Advisors, Life Coaches and employment agencies now recommending it for their clients."

How does it work?

The assessment takes approximately 25 minutes and involves rating your level of interest in a variety of activities, industries and occupations from strongly like to strongly dislike.

At the end of the assessment, you will receive your Career Report detailing your highest scoring careers, suggested areas of study, an action plan and recommended websites.

What else can I get?

For a comprehensive career assessment that assesses your interests and personality, we recommend you take the Myers Briggs Personality Indicator in addition to Career Magnifier (option 3 on the sign up page). Your Myers Briggs Report contains the most popular careers for your personality type, your preferred work tasks and your ideal work environment.

If you are considering applying for a course, we recommend you take advantage of our Course Recommendations service (option 4 on the sign up page). This option includes a list of suggested courses at Tafe, College and/or University in your selected location. Your results are assessed by a professional Career Consultant.

Why should I take this assessment?

According to a study conducted by Professor Charles Birch and Management Consultant David Paul, titled 'Life and Work,' 88% of people are dissatisfied with their job. Unhappiness at work not only affects you, it also affects your family and friends.

Considering the number of hours we work each week, it is important that we find a job that interests us. Life is short! Why not enjoy each day rather than spend every week looking forward to the weekend?

Our career assessment identifies the careers and courses that you are most likely to enjoy, providing you with a lifestyle choice, not just a job. By completing the assessment, you will gain an insight into the careers that match your interests, values and personality, the first step to finding a job you love.

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."
